    After the four o’clock storm

    Something just stopped working

A camera, the doorbell, the printer or the TV that worked yesterday.

Blink the power

See what a rack UPS, a battery backup for the network, changes when the power goes. The house is made up; the storm is very real.

The four o'clock storm

  • A rack UPS is a battery backup for the network gear. It isn't a whole-home battery: it doesn't run your lights or AC.
  • How long it lasts depends on the UPS and what's plugged in.
  • If the internet company's equipment down the street loses power, the internet can still drop. Your Wi-Fi and cameras keep working inside the house.
Typical setup
The power blinks for a second. The router restarts, the Wi-Fi is gone for a few minutes, and the doorbell drops.
How I'd set it up
A rack UPS keeps the network up when the power goes out. The house goes dark; the Wi-Fi doesn’t.

The approach

How support works

  1. Step 1

    Call or book

Tell me what’s going on. Plenty of problems can be sorted out over a remote session, without a visit.

  2. Step 2

    On-site when it needs hands

I come out to Nocatee, Ponte Vedra, the Beaches, Jacksonville and St. Johns County.

  3. Step 3

    Ride out the power blinks

A rack UPS (a battery backup for the network gear) keeps the Wi-Fi up through a blink or an outage. It isn’t a whole-home battery: the lights still go out.

  4. Step 4

    Keep it current

Updates, a quick health check and fixes before small problems turn into outages.

What you get

  • One local person who knows your setup
  • Remote help when it can be fixed remotely
  • Honest advice about what’s worth fixing and what isn’t
  • Notes on what was done, so the next visit starts ahead
