What’s new on the site

I build and run this site myself, and I keep working on it. Here is everything that has shipped, newest first: new features, improvements, fixes, and the work behind the scenes that keeps it fast, accessible and up.

  1. Latest

A separate site for businesses and organizations

    • New

SunnyShoresIT for Business now has its own site at business.sunnyshoresit.com: IT, Microsoft 365 and devices, office networks, cameras, support and automation for small businesses, growing teams, larger organizations and non-profits.

    • New

It explains how the work fits the size of your organization, how an engagement runs from the first message to the hand-over, and has its own contact form.

    • Improved

The home side of the site stays about homes. The business automation pages moved to the business site, and the old addresses forward there.

New guides by email, and new kinds of pictures in the guides

    • New

You can get new guides by email. Sign up at the bottom of the blog or any guide, confirm from the email I send, and you get one email when a new guide is out, at most one a week. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe.

    • New

Guides can now carry illustrations made with AI and small animated graphics drawn for that guide. AI pictures are always labeled as AI illustrations, never passed off as photos of a real home or job, and link to their content credentials when the image carries them.

    • Behind the scenes

Admin: tools to make covers and graphics for a guide, and a weekly helper that drafts a guide from what visitors read and ask about, checks it for anything unsupported, and holds it for my review before it goes live.

Small fixes to the storm, the Wi-Fi map and the phone menus

    • Fixed

During the storm outage the pool now goes dark with the rest of the house, and lights up again when the power comes back.

    • Fixed

Turning the power back on also clears “What if the internet’s down too?”, so “Cut it again” replays the plain outage.

    • Fixed

The power-out card’s network line fits on one line on laptop screens, and on 1280-wide screens the Wi-Fi map controls sit beside the house instead of over the floor colors.

    • Fixed

Cleaner Wi-Fi floor colors: no stray little rings on the upstairs floor.

    • Improved

On small phones all five tabs on the service pages, FAQ included, fit on screen without swiping, and the menu button no longer stays grey after you close a full-screen tour stop.

Pages for Nocatee, Ponte Vedra Beach, Jacksonville Beach and Atlantic Beach

    • New

Each of these towns has its own page now: what is different about looking after a home’s tech there, from salt air on outdoor gear to the local sea turtle lighting rules, with links to the official sources, answers to common questions and a way to book.

    • Improved

The service area page and the footer link to the town pages, and page titles now say where I work.

    • Behind the scenes

Search engines get one clear description of the business on every page: the towns I serve, my certifications, and no street address, since I come to you.

Easier to reach me from every tour stop, and a home page just for homes

    • Improved

Every stop of the home page tour now ends with a way to book a visit or call, and the booking form already knows which part of the tour you were looking at.

    • Improved

The home page is about homes only. Business automation keeps its own page, linked from “For business” in the menu.

    • New

Until client reviews are in, the home page shows the standards every job comes with: local from Nocatee, your privacy, clean labeled installs, and only replacing what needs it.

    • Improved

If a form can’t send, or JavaScript is turned off, you now get clear buttons to call, email or pick a time instead of a note.

    • Improved

The illustrated tour on phones no longer shows a person in the living room or the house at night, the same as the 3D.

    • Behind the scenes

Private, cookie-free counts of how far visits get through the tour and the page, and which buttons get tapped, so I can see what helps and what doesn’t. The privacy policy explains exactly what is counted.

Real job photos on the Work and About pages

    • New

The Work page now shows my own photos from real jobs: a labeled structured-media enclosure, a ceiling-mounted access point in a home gym, a rack going together, the cabling behind it, UniFi gear staged before install and an alarm panel. On phones they sit in a strip you can swipe.

    • New

The About page has three of those job photos, and a photo of me at the beach in place of a stock picture.

    • Behind the scenes

Admin: bulk photo uploads from my phone, with location data stripped before anything is stored and every photo private until I choose to use it.

  2. More realistic cameras, access points and lighting in the 3D tour

    • Improved

The security cameras in the 3D tour are rebuilt as detailed models of the bullet and dome cameras I install, with real materials and a soft shadow on the wall. The camera stop now shows the camera from a three-quarter angle, so you can see its shape.

    • Improved

The Wi-Fi access points, on the ceiling and outdoors on the pool deck, get the same treatment: closer to the real units, with a thin light ring and a soft shadow.

    • Improved

Softer lighting across the whole house: furniture, steps and the fountain now sit on the ground with a soft shadow, and the rooms in the cutaway views get soft corners.

    • Behind the scenes

The new models only load on a computer, and only near the views that show them. Phones are unchanged.

A clearer storm outage, and no more walking figure

    • Improved

The four o’clock storm now starts in the lit network closet. When the power goes, the closet light flickers and goes out, but the rack stays on: its lights keep glowing and its UPS turns amber. Then the house goes dark while the Wi-Fi floors stay green.

    • Improved

The outage plays by itself when you flip the switch, and the status says plainly that a rack UPS keeps the network up. It is not a whole-home battery, so the lights go out. The internet backup is a UniFi 5G backup.

    • Improved

I took the person out of the 3D house. He walked through walls and didn’t add anything, so movie time now starts right away and the automations play on their own.

    • Fixed

Fixed an error that could stop the home page’s 3D tour when the browser window was minimized.

    • Fixed

On the home page, pressing Blinds or TV during party mode now ends the party and shows the living room again.

    • Behind the scenes

A new check walks the home page tour and the Sunrise House on a desktop and fails on any console error.

  3. Wi-Fi floors and a power outage in the Sunrise House

    • Improved

In the 3D house, the Wi-Fi heat map now colors the floors themselves, green where the signal is strong and red where it dies, on the same scale as the floor plan.

    • New

The four o’clock storm now plays a power outage: the lights flicker, the house goes dark, and the network keeps running on its battery backup, with a short status of what is still up.

    • New

A "What if the internet’s down too?" option shows the house staying online on a 5G backup.

    Visit the Sunrise House

    Sunrise House fixes

    • Fixed

The "See this house’s automations" panel now opens on top of the page instead of under the next section, and long triggers like Goodnight wrap instead of being cut off.

    • Fixed

The front yard lighting is laid out the way I would install it: flush lights set into both edges of the driveway and path lights staggered along the walk, instead of rows of posts across the lawn.

    • Improved

The in-ground driveway lights read as metal and frosted glass in daylight, and the 3 AM arrival still lights the drive up to the garage like a runway.

    • Fixed

The garage doors no longer glow in stripes at night, and the floating rings that marked each device during the night scenes are gone.

    • Improved

The 9:10 PM front door clip now looks like a doorbell camera recording: the delivery driver on the lit porch with the pizza.

    Visit the Sunrise House

    A tidier time-of-day bar

    • Fixed

On the Sunrise House page, the time-of-day bar above the house no longer clips the highlighted stop or cuts the last one off at the edge. On narrower screens it fades at the ends and keeps the current stop in view.

    • Improved

The free-explore stop at the end of that bar now reads "Anytime", lined up with the times before it.

    • Fixed

Keyboard focus outlines are no longer cut off in the scrolling bars: the house page stop bar on phones, the service-page section tabs, the tour steps and the blog topic filters.

    A public changelog

    • New

This page: a running list of what I ship on the site, newest first. There is an RSS feed too, if you want to follow along.

    • Behind the scenes

Every production release now adds an entry here as part of the release checklist.

    The Sunrise House in 3D

    • New

On a computer, the home page tour now plays in real 3D: the Wi-Fi coverage, the network closet, the cameras and the backyard of a model beachfront home.

    • New

The Sunrise House page ("See it in action" in the menu): spend a whole day in the house, from sunrise to a 3 AM arrival, and watch automations like Movie time, Away mode and Goodnight run.

    • Improved

Phones keep the quick 2.5D version of the house, with a "View in 3D" option on the house page.

    • Behind the scenes

The 3D only loads on computers that can run it smoothly. Phones, low-power devices and anyone who prefers reduced motion get the lighter 2.5D pictures, and phones never download the 3D code.

    Visit the Sunrise House

A phone layout built for thumbs

    • New

A new phone home screen: it starts with "What’s going on at home?" and four common problems that take you straight to the right service.

    • New

On phones, the house tour is a swipe deck. Tap a card to open that stop full screen.

    • New

A dock at the bottom of the screen with Call, Services and Book a visit. Services opens a sheet with every service.

    • Improved

Service pages get pinned section tabs on phones, and pages end with a short "Not sure which one it is?" card.

    • Improved

Much less scrolling: the home page on a phone is less than half as long as before.

    • Behind the scenes

Tablets and computers were checked pixel for pixel and are unchanged. The phone dialogs keep keyboard and screen reader focus where it belongs.

  4. New phone number

    • Improved

      A new business phone number: (904) 240-4919.

    The redesigned SunnyShoresIT

    • New

A completely redesigned site: a new look, clearer services for homeowners, and real Northeast Florida photos, credited to their photographers.

    • New

The Sunrise House tour on the home page: a model beachfront home that walks through good Wi-Fi, a tidy network closet, cameras and simple automations, one stop at a time.

    • New

"Try it" cards on the service pages: flip a switch and see the before and after.

    • New

Book a visit online, with prices up front: a free 15-minute call, and a $150 on-site assessment that is credited toward your project.

    • New

A service area map, and a real case study with before-and-after Wi-Fi heatmaps from a Nocatee-area home.

    • New

A rebuilt blog with topics, search and new posts on automation and AI, storm prep and home security. The diagrams animate, and you can pause them.

    • New

An accessibility statement, and a "Reduce effects" switch in the footer that turns off decorative motion.

    • Improved

Business automation & AI is now in the main menu as "For business".

    • Improved

The About page lists my certifications: CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, Microsoft MS-102 and MD-102.

    • Improved

Reviews come from real clients through a personal review link, and appear once I approve them.

    • Improved

Old links still work: retired pages forward to their new homes.

    • Behind the scenes

The blog is built ahead of time instead of fetched on every visit, so posts open much faster. Publishing a post rebuilds the site automatically.

    • Behind the scenes

A rebuilt private admin dashboard for managing leads and blog posts.

    • Behind the scenes

Security: the admin area and its data sit behind a sign-in that is checked again on the server, and the forms have spam protection.

    • Behind the scenes

Server requests give up after a few seconds instead of waiting forever, so one slow piece can’t hang a page.

    • Behind the scenes

Every release now passes more than 300 automated tests, accessibility scans and a contrast check of the rendered page in light and dark mode, on computer, iPhone and Android screen sizes.

    • Behind the scenes

The launch went out in phases, each with a rehearsed one-step rollback.

  5. Uptime monitoring

    • Fixed

A server issue stopped pages from loading for visitors in one region for about 18 minutes. I found it and fixed it the same day.

    • Behind the scenes

Uptime monitoring: the site now checks itself every two minutes and emails me within minutes if anything breaks.

    • Behind the scenes

A second, independent watchdog checks the site from outside, and a weekly uptime report lands in my inbox.

  6. Tighter admin security

    • Behind the scenes

Tightened the sign-in checks on the private admin tools.

  7. Business automation & AI

    • New

A page for local businesses: automation and AI engineering that takes routine work off your team’s plate.

    • New

A business-case calculator: enter your own numbers to see the hours an automation could give back. Your inputs stay in your browser.

    • New

A short planning form, so a first conversation starts with the details that matter.

    • Behind the scenes

Private reporting on my advertising, and updated privacy notices on the forms to match.
